What are the best gemstones for everyday wear?

It really depends on the wear.

The main cause for poor performance of rings, pendants, and earrings is in how they are worn.
Some gemstones however do wear better than others do.

They are Diamonds, Rubies, Sapphires and Aquamarine.

Most other gemstones, such as
Topaz, Citrine, Tourmaline, Garnet, Amethyst, Blue Zircon, Peridot,
are of a more average durability and require more care and consideration when wearing.

Then we have a few gemstones that do not wear well.

They include; Opals, Emeralds and Tanzanite.

As a general rule most gems do well in earrings
because there are few impacts on a person’s ear
and impacts are what cause nearly all damage to gemstones.

Pendants are also at very little risk because
most of the impacts received have little force behind them.

The biggest risk to the gemstones worn as earrings or pendants is being lost.

A good rule of thumb for earrings is if they cost $250
or more make sure they have screw backs.

On pendants the chain should not be too light or a loss might occur.

We recommend a box chain of 2 grams or more for any pendant over $250.

Rings are a different story and what finger a gemstone is worn on
is probably the most significant factor.

We recommend not wearing Opals, Tanzanite and Emeralds on pinkie fingers.

An important note about Opals is that not wearing them is harmful
because your natural skin oil prevents them from drying out
which will cause cracking to occur.

Do not store Opals for long periods of time without rubbing them with your natural skin oil,
for they may dry and crack.

If you use Diamonds, Rubies, and Sapphires for any finger
and wear other gemstones on your middle and index fingers,
you will probably have good luck provided you have bought jewelry
that has high quality labor like the jewelry sold at Randy’s Jewelry.
